With instrumentation fitted to your car, we can log a significant amount of data on how it and the driver perform on track or in testing. We have experience developing both the hardware and software for driver-in-the-loop (DIL) simulators used by Formula 1, Indycar and Le Mans prototype teams. We can use our racing experience along with behind-the-scenes understanding of DIL simulators to develop a test plan or augment your existing simulator sessions.

We offer computer simulation of the airflow around your prototype vehicle or concept design, which will minimise the more expensive iterations required on track or the wind tunnel. Once a suitable simulated design is in place, we are equipped to take a model or full-scale vehicle for wind-tunnel testing. Through this process a vehicle aerodynamic map can be generated for use at the circuit, lap time simulation or driver-in-loop (DIL) simulator.
Once your car hits the track we can evaluate the complete package and work with adjustable devices to fine tune your particular aerodynamic map to suit requirements, ensuring your car can be configured for every circuit.

In racing, tyres are pivotal. Being the only contact with the road surface the performance limit is governed by tyres. All lateral forces are generated at the tyre’s contact patch and all driver feedback comes through them. Ultimately everything your vehicle does is to make the most of the tyre’s capacity.

We have links to the tyre industry and test laboratories bringing you access to competitively priced rolling road test lab and performance data for a selection of tyres. For more open racing series’, COLLINS LIMITED has the ability to provide design and simulation services, either full car or subsystems for an existing vehicle, new concept development or detail design. Simulation underpins our design work, bringing greater confidence to our design work in key areas such as: aerodynamics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, structures, kinematics and dynamic analysis. You will get the car that performs how you want.
The design team has experience in developing mechanical systems, iterative design and test of impact structures, hydraulic assemblies such as Formula 1 power steering assemblies along with combined hydro-mechanical interlinked suspension systems. We will work with your team, finding creative solutions to add performance to your car whilst keeping the right side of the regulations.
There is no substitute for safety. We have the ability to develop and carry out relevant proof-load tests such that any part that isn’t up to scratch will fail in the safety of a test lab, not in the compression at Eau Rouge. This includes building virtual computer models of your vehicle, aerodynamic and suspension systems to develop meaningful load cases, developing test rigs and conducting tests.
For many classes of competition, regulations require your vehicle to undergo homologation certification. This may be using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulation, calculation or experimental testing in the lab via static load or high-energy impact tests. COLLINS LIMITED has years of experience in this field and can advise and develop tests, or take a key role in planning and conducting these tests to meet the category requirements.
For historic series’ where parts are no longer, or never were, in regular production, we suggest our 3D part scanning technology for future conservation. Parts from your unique, one-off vehicle can be scanned in their current, full working state and the digital point cloud data stored should the car be in an accident or a have a part failure in future. This is a far simpler process than having to find old drawings or reconstruct a damaged car.
In this event, the pre-scanned part files can can be digitally reverse-engineered to drawings for manufacturing new parts. The reverse engineering process may use current materials, or more exhaustive research into period alloys, materials and production techniques.
More advanced reproduction using advanced additive manufacturing is available in several materials. It is possible to generate both wax investment cast blanks or directly print in metal.
Electronic circuit design and software development underpin all of our work, bringing you the latest in technology to push projects over the line.
